Dear Web-Surfer,

Thank you for visiting our site. We are a new service at Calvary/St. George's Church, in New York City.

We are a diverse group of people, coming from all walks of life. The service is also diverse blending the ancient with the modern.

In this service you will find eveything from prayers that have been prayed throughout the centuries to prayers that come right off the top of our heads, 10th century chants to contemporary Christian Music.

Wherever you are along the journey of this extremely complex life, there is a place for you at Evensong. You are warmly welcome.

Summary of our Service

The great thing about Evensong is that it runs for exactly one hour, who wants to be in church longer than that? The service is set in histoic Calvary Church on the corner of Park Ave South and 21st street, downtown Manhattan. We follow the service of Evening Prayer found in the Book of Common Prayer, with Holy Communion on the third Sundays of the month. In that hour you will find music that has been thoughtully choosen by our music team, a sermon that is relevant, and prayers that are focused on God and come out of a place of need. After the service we have what is best described as..."hang out time!" There is always an array of great appetizers, low lighting, and amazing conversation.

Essentially, the service is all about the Gospel. We believe that the Gospel is not about a moral standard of living or eight steps to a better you, but rather it is simply a message to be believed. The Gospel is a message all about God's one way love to broken people, through the person and work of Jesus Christ.. At Evensong we believe that Christianity is not about good people getting better, but bad people coping with their failure to be good. Many of us suffer. We live with the dissappointment that things did not turn out the way we thought they should be. It is in light of that message, that God loves us despite our brokeness, this sevice exists.
